Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive podiatry treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to treat chronic foot and leg pain. By stimulating blood flow, breaking down calcifications, and promoting tissue repair, it accelerates healing in stubborn soft-tissue injuries.
It is particularly effective in treating chronic plantar fasciitus, achilles tendinopathy, and shin splints.
Treatment process:
-
Duration: Usually takes about 10–15 minutes.
-
Frequency: Standard protocols require 3 to 8 treatments, spaced about a week apart.
-
Procedure: The podiatrist applies a contact gel and uses a handheld device to deliver radial waves through the skin.
-
Sensation: While generally well-tolerated and requiring no anesthesia, it can cause mild discomfort during treatment as it targets damaged tissues.
